Sepet Ending

There's been a lot of debate on this, the ending to the movie Sepet. Who answered the phone when Orked called Jason? Cos in the previous scene it showed that Jason had died in a motorcycle accident. (Well, ppl only assume that he's dead. Maybe he's just seriously injured.) Some ppl say Jason answered the phone before he crashed, some ppl say his bestfriend Keong answered the phone for Jason, some ppl say it was Jason's spirit. Some ppl say it was just Orked's imagination, or something that she did to calm her mother who was crying deliriously beside her...

I really don't know. You gotta ask the director/writer herself. I just remember myself saying at the end of the movie, "Eh tak paham laa! Tak puas hati... saper yang angkat phone tuh?? Eeeesh."

What's your take on the ending?

Sepet

Sepet, the movie that everyone is talking about. I finally went to watch it yesterday with 3 of my friends. Finally. We've been talking about going to watch this movie since it was first released. And I can safely say that Sepet is the the truest Malaysian film ever made. It is that natural. I'm talking about the dialogue, the actions, the feelings. The dialogue especially. What other Malaysian movie makers tried to achieve and failed, Sepet's done it.

I think the reason why Yasmin Ahmad (the writer and director) succeeded in representing true and honest Malaysian life was the simple storyline. She didn't stray too much from the central plot of the film. And I think that's why it worked. You get flashbacks and the main characters explaining to one another about their past, so she didn't have to play it out in different scenes to make the film complicated. It was simple and nice. It was truly a pleasure to watch.

The dialogue was so natural that Harith Iskandar (who played main character, Orked's father) sounded like my dad. It was also very refreshing to see the chemistry between the actors. That was also another reason why the film worked. I really liked it, and really recommend it to others to watch. five stars. ˜˜˜˜˜
